Mini Journal: Me and Chiari Day 3

Well, I haven’t been writing because I was sick. Just a bad cold, but it sucked away my will to live. Ha!

Anyway, I’m back and we finally have some sunshine. Isn’t it amazing how much the sun energizes you and makes you feel more positive about life? I’m always shocked about that after it’s been hiding for a few days. If you have chiari, have you noticed a change in symptoms when a weather front comes in? I definitely have worse headaches and my bum elbow gets very sore.

I think those are words my grandma used to say.

I learned something interesting about my tennis elbow. Since it’s been almost a year and a half, I most likely have tendinosis, not tendonitis. The difference is that tendonitis is an inflammation of the tendon, tendinosis is is damage to the tendon at a cellular level (the suffix “osis” implies a pathology of chronic degeneration without inflammation). Some articles say that this damage is caused because the tendon doesn’t enough blood flow to help heal the damage. For example, if you broke your elbow, the bone would heal much faster than an injured tendon because the bone gets more blood flow and nutrients to aid in the healing. Tendons don’t get as much of this and take longer to heal. The way to heal it faster is massage and light weights – not rest – because both these things increase blood flow.

This is great news for me, because I’ve been so sad to have to lay off the arm weights for the last 18 months. My arms were my best body part, and now they feel…neglected. Safe to say I hit some light weights today! I’m hoping this will help move that pain out of my arm and far away from this body of mine.

Hope you had sunshine wherever you are!
