Mini Journal: Me and Chiari Day 6

May 31st, 2018. That’s the day of my decompression surgery.

I have been planning family vacations and getting things in order so that I’ll be ready to rest after the surgery, and not worry about anything except recuperating. I am sure the surgery will go well, I’m just a little nervous about the recovery.

What will I feel like? Will my headaches be severe?

What will my hair look like?!

How will I sleep? If my head is cut open in the back, won’t it hurt to lay down? I’m so confused.

Will my husband remember to feed the kids vegetables?

How long is it going to take for me to feel normal again?

Can I finally get a chauffeur?!

Is this a good idea?

Will someone bring me Thai food every day?

Will the scar last forever or eventually fade?

Am I making the right decision?

If you search for “Arnold Chiari malformation decompression surgery” on Google, you’ll get a ton of information that all say the same thing. The articles describe the process before surgery, the actual surgery, and the follow-up after the surgery. I’m more interested in the recovery process. I know everyone is different and will have different stories to tell. I’m not dumb. I realize that recovery is a personal process that depends on a multitude of factors.

Are you considering having this surgery? Have you had this surgery? Please comment your experiences and questions below! I’d love to hear from people that have had the decompression surgery and I will try to answer any questions from my personal experience.

I’d love to hear from you!
