Protein Powder for Women

{This post contains affiliate links and if you purchase through them, I make a little to keep the site going! Thanks in advance!}

IdealLean products are made for women and they are awesome!! The protein powder tastes great and only has 80 calories, 0 carbs, and 20 grams of protein per serving. I start my day with a shake every day. Chocolate Brownie is my favorite, but I love having a Cake Batter protein shake in the evenings to overcome my cravings for dessert. I cannot wait to try the NEW Strawberries and Cream protein!

You may have questions, like…

Do I Even Need Protein Powder?

Maybe!

If you eat enough whole-food sources of protein three to four times a day (meat, dairy, etc…), you might not even need to use protein powder. Generally, you should get about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. That can be a lot of chicken! If you’re pressed for time, protein supplements can help you reach your goal.

Can Whey Protein Can Help Reduce Hunger?

Yes!

Whey protein can help you reduce hunger. According to these Australian researchers, 28 obese men consumed four different drinks. Those who consumed the beverage containing 50 grams of whey had significantly reduced levels of ghrelin (a hormone that tells your brain you’re hungry) up to four hours later. (Source)

Will It Help Me Gain Lean Body Mass?

YES!

A study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition set out to test whether whey protein supplements increased muscle protein synthesis better than soy protein or carb based supplements. Researchers put participants on a “whole-body periodized resistance training program” for about nine months. The subjects body composition was recorded at the beginning and then every three months until completion.

“Despite consuming similar calories and protein during resistance training, daily supplementation with whey was more effective…in promoting gains in lean body mass”. Fat mass also decreased slightly among all participants. (Source)

One more thing…

I also LOVE Ideal Lean’s BCAAs (branch chain amino acids).

They are great for recovery after working out and it helps build lean muscle. Raspberry Lemonade and Green Apple both taste fantastic and once again 0 calories! My next order, I am changing it up and trying their new grape flavor.

What Exactly Are BCAAs?

Of the essential amino acids, three account for as much as 33% of muscle tissue – leucine, isoleucine, and valine. These three are called BCAAs, which stands for branched chain amino acids.

BCAAs work in your favor by reducing the rate of protein breakdown. After all of your hard work, you don’t want your body to start breaking down muscle for fuel. And while these are present in your whey protein powder, thos BCAAs are peptide-bound to other amino acids and, in order to be effective, must go through digestion and then absorbed into the bloodstream. Even though whey protein is relatively fast digesting, it still takes several hours for all the amino acids to be liberated and absorbed into the bloodstream.
